Why Am I Encountering Paywalls When I Have Paid For A Subscription?
If you have a Ground News subscription but are still encountering paywalls when opening articles, this usually happens for one of three reasons: you may be signed into the wrong account, your subscription tier may not include certain features, or the paywall is controlled by the external publisher.
Follow the steps below to troubleshoot the issue.
How to Fix the Issue
Confirm You Are Logged Into the Correct Account
The most common reason subscription benefits do not appear is that you are signed into a different account than the one used to purchase the subscription. If you've purchased a subscription, we recommend that you confirm whether you are signed into the account that was originally used at checkout.
On the Ground News app
Launch the Ground News app
Tap the Profile tab (bottom-right corner of the page)
Select the Manage Account button
Confirm the email address associated with your subscription
On the Ground News website
Sign into your account on our website and select My Account in the top-right corner
Review the email address listed on your account page
If your account does not match the one used to purchase your subscription, sign out and log back in with the correct account. Learn how to sign into the correct account here.
Verify Your Subscription Tier and Status
Different Ground News subscription plans include different features. The Vantage subscription tier provides full access to all platform features.

If your payment didn’t process or your subscription expired, you may need to reactivate it. Activate a Ground News subscription here.
Understanding Article Paywalls and How to Manage Them
Since each publisher has its own rules about external article paywalls, a Ground News subscription does not remove external paywalls. However, we offer some tools to help make your reading experience smoother.
Sort & Filter Paywalled Sources
As a Premium+ subscriber, tap the “Sort & Filter” tool in the newsroom and remove article paywalls from your view. Here’s how.

If you’re using the Ground News app or website, Premium+ subscribers can automatically hide paywalled sources. Learn more here.
