Why Am I Encountering Paywalls When I Have Paid For A Subscription?

If you've subscribed to Ground News but are still seeing paywalls, you might be wondering why. Does your subscription include unlimited access? Are there any settings you need to adjust? Below, we’ll walk through some of the most common reasons why this happens and how you can fix this.


You Might Be Signed Into the Wrong Account

This is the most common reason why subscription benefits aren’t showing up. If you accidentally signed into a different account than the one used for your purchase, your access will not carry over.

  • Double-check your account details: Make sure you’re logged in with the correct email and login method associated with your subscription.

    • On the mobile apps, you can check what account you are signed into by going to your Profile and then the "Manage Account" page.

    • On the website, you can view your account login details by selecting "My Account" in the far top-right corner of the homepage.

  • Try signing out and back in: Once you identify what account your subscription is connected to, you can simply sign out and sign back in with the correct credentials. Here’s how to sign into the correct account.


Your Subscription Tier Might Not Include Full Access

Different subscription plans come with different levels of access and our Vantage plan provides unlimited access to all of our features.


Understanding Article Paywalls and How to Manage Them

Since each publisher has its own rules about external article paywalls, a Ground News membership doesn’t remove external paywalls. However, we offer some tools to help make your reading experience smoother:

  • Sort and Filter: Want to manage paywalled sources? As a Premium+ subscriber, tap “Sort & Filter” in the newsroom and remove them from your view. Here’s how.

  • Universal Paywall Filter: If you’re using the Ground News app, Premium+ subscribers can automatically hide paywalled sources. Learn more here.
