Bug: Mobile App Not Loading on Some Android Devices

We’re currently investigating an issue affecting some Android readers where the Ground News app does not load properly on launch. The screenshot below shows the error message “Something went wrong” that may appear when the app fails to load.

Quick Fix

If you encounter this issue, try reinstalling the app. To do this:

  1. Delete the Ground News app from your Android device.

  2. Reinstall the Ground News app from the Google Play Store.

  3. Log back into your account.

This usually resolves the error message and restores normal app performance.

Bug: Top US Newsfeed Not Loading on Mobile App

We’re currently investigating an issue affecting some readers where the Top US newsfeed does not load properly when first opening the mobile app.

Quick Fix

If you encounter this issue, you can restore your Top US newsfeed by:

  1. Switching to any other feed (e.g., Blindspot, Top Canada, Top International, Local News, etc.)

  2. Then switching back to the Top US newsfeed. The Top US feed should load correctly after this step.

Bug: Subscriptions Not Syncing with Google Play Store

We’re currently investigating an issue affecting some Android subscribers where active subscriptions appear to be disconnected from the Google Play Store.

If your subscription isn’t being recognized, please follow the steps outlined in our Help Center guide: My subscription isn't recognized

  1. Restore your subscription in the app.

  2. Ensure that you're signed into the correct Ground News account.

If the issue persists, please reach out to us at feedback@ground.news with a copy of your Google Play Store receipt in your message, as this will help us investigate the issue further and connect you to your subscription promptly.


Important: Choosing "Restore My Subscription" in the mobile apps will reactivate a cancelled subscription.

Bug: Google Sign-In Stuck on Loading Screen

We were previously aware of an issue affecting some Google accounts on the Ground News Android App, where the sign-in process would get stuck on a continuous loading or spinning symbol. Our development team identified the cause and has now released a fix.

While this has resolved the problem for most users, it may still persist for some. If you’re still experiencing this issue, we recommend uninstalling and reinstalling the app. If the problem continues after reinstalling, please reach out to us at feedback@ground.news and our team will be happy to assist by setting you up with a temporary password so you can access your account in the meantime.

Current Status

This issue has been resolved in the latest version of the Ground News Android app (v4.20.0). However, the update may not have rolled out to all app users just yet. If you're still experiencing problems, please try reinstalling the app to the latest version and reach out to us at feedback@ground.news .


Bug: Wrong Headline Appearing on Mobile Apps

We’re aware of an issue affecting the Compact Card mode on the Ground News iOS and Android Mobile App, where some readers may see a mismatch between the headline displayed on the Story Card and the main story’s headline in the Newsroom. Our development team has identified the cause and is actively working on a fix.

Quick Fix

To avoid this issue in the meantime, you can turn off Compact Card mode by following these steps:

  1. Open the Ground News app.

  2. Navigate to Profile.

  3. Tap on Settings.

  4. Locate Compact Cards and toggle the setting off.

Current Status

Our team is investigating this issue, and a resolution is planned for the next Ground News app update.
