Customization Tips for Better Local News Results

Once you've set your location, your Local Feed will highlight news stories relevant to that region. That said, the availability of local coverage can vary depending on your selected area and the day’s news cycle.

Below are a few helpful tips to improve the accuracy of your Local Feed, discover more relevant stories, and adjust your settings as needed.

"Some stories don't seem relevant to my local feed"

Your Local Feed is designed to show stories relevant to your selected region—but sometimes, you might notice a few headlines that don’t feel quite local.

This can happen for a few reasons:

  • There may not be many stories published about your local area at the moment, so we fill in with provincial/state or national-level coverage to keep your feed active. Try setting your location to the nearest large city.

  • The story might include a mention of your location in the article, even if it's not the main focus.

If you come across something that doesn’t belong in your local feed, you can flag it quickly:

  • On our app, tap the three dots on the story card. Select "Report an Issue" – our support team will review and make adjustments if needed.

  • On our website, click into a story and select the "Report an Issue" button (flag icon) on the top-right corner of your webpage, just above the story headline.

  • Or send our support team an email at feedback@ground.news with the article link and let us know what you currently have set as your Local Feed—we’ll personally look into it.
