Understanding the Bias Comparison Summary Feature on Ground News

Edited

How Does the Bias Comparison Work?

The Bias Comparison summary feature helps readers quickly see how news outlets across the political spectrum (Left, Center, and Right) are covering the same story. Once you’ve clicked into a story, select the Bias Comparison tab just below the headline to view a summary of how each side is reporting on it.

AI Summaries and Accuracy

Ground News uses AI technology to help generate these summaries. We have implemented several safeguards to ensure accuracy in our summaries, which include relying on information from High Factuality-rated news sources and incorporating manual review.

Ground AI is used sparingly in order to analyze content at the speed and volume that our readers expect. While we would love to have the ability to manually review and summarize each story that appears on Ground News, tens of thousands of stories are added to the platform each day. We want to prioritize giving readers every angle of every story, and, while we understand there are hesitations around the use of AI, we're taking steps and implementing the necessary guardrails to implement it in the most responsible way currently possible, including human oversight for reported issues. We will continue to make adjustments as needed and you can rest assured that our team is always here to personally answer any questions you may have and investigate any issues you may encounter on Ground News.

If you notice an issue with a summary, you can report it directly to our support team. Our team is available 7 days a week to address and investigate any reported issues. Learn more about reporting an issue on Ground News here.

"I Don't See the Bias Comparison Summary"

The Bias Comparison summary is available for stories that have enough distinct coverage across the political spectrum. If a story lacks enough unique articles from the Left, Center, or Right, the bias comparison feature may not be available.

For smaller stories with fewer sources, Ground News may only provide a general summary rather than a full bias comparison. As the story gains more media coverage, the Bias Comparison can become available.
